Standardized tests can make a big difference in someone's future.

One problem in the testing field is that some of the large testing organizations have clear conflicts of interest. Many of them claim to serve the public interest and receive taxpayer subsidies in the form of 501(c)(3) status from the IRS. However, in reality, they may just take their "profits" and write them off as tax-free salaries and bonuses to their staff and board members.

This is why so many exams cost so much to take. The testing companies have a monopoly on people's future, and they take advantage of their position by charging the highest possible exam fee that test-takers can bear.

Also, many of the testing companies offer their own test preparation- while simultaneously claiming that test preparation is unnecessary since their exam is "fair to all test-takers." Think about it: if the same group who claims that test preparation isn't necessary for their exam is also selling their own test preparation materials, then there is a conflict of interest: either the exam isn't fair or their "official" test preparation is just an excuse to get more money out of vulnerable test-takers.

It is a concern to us that examinations could impact people so much, and that available resources to prepare for those examinations were often limited.

One of the first things we knew we needed to do was to build a group of qualified experts in a variety of fields- any field where people were subjected to high-stakes tests that determined their future. Then, with the help of their expertise, we began to offer a larger and larger catalog of test preparation.

Don't get us wrong. We are not opposed to testing or to standardized tests in general. Most tests are not inherently biased or necessarily unfair. In fact, we oppose many of the efforts by large testing organizations to "dumb down" their tests to suit politically correct demands for "fairness".

Our opinion is that standardized testing is one of the most useful tools we have to measure aptitude for learning, place people in appropriate careers and to ensure competence. Our mission is not to oppose testing, but to work to make the testing process smoother for test-takers by providing them with effective, affordable and guaranteed test preparation products.
